My sketchbook #2

Etchings of the skull, I incorporated the Escher hand onto this also as i thought it fitted well with the appearance i was trying to achieve.

This is a double page spread research and images of art history (Leonardo  Di Vinci) I gathered of Greek mythology focusing mostly on the creature Medusa. Inspired by my research I then went on to produce a acrylic painting of Medusa, I really tried to capture the detail in Medusa's face as Di Vinci did.

I then began gathering my own images, I used photo's i'd took on holiday in a gift shop of inspring greek statues and I also took my own images dressed up as a Greek and gathered pictures of famous greek statues.

Inspired by statues, I then went on to create a pencil drawing of my own images in the style of a statue. I then went onto research some artists that interested and inspired me I started looking at expressionist work, I really enjoyed the color and how the exaggerated aspect gave the paintings a lot of energy. I tried to recreate the "engery" and heavy brush stokes in this eye I painted.

I also wanted to experiment with different types of paint work so reseacrhed artists in which the paint work interested me, I was really inspired by Belinda Eaton and tried to recreate this effect.

After experimenting with different types of painting I felt confident enough to try and recreate an initial painting I saw from Leonardo Di Vinci. I tried to use different tones and expressive brush strokes.

After experimenting with paint I decided to use a different medium, so i chose to do a boutique wax art of my own image dress as Medusa, where i got to experiment with different materials I then got to die the fabric different colours, I feel this portrays a degree of expressionism.

I then decided to then to use the sewing machine, i sewed over my own images and my art history images to create a effective technique.
I then continued with the idea of sewing and keeping with the greek theme i then created a textile art of the famous venus statue. I did a pencil drawing of the Venus statue as i thought the shading was an effective way of capturing the 3 dimensional aspects of the drawing.
